Woven In Hiatus are a Boston, MA based acoustic indie project put together by singer/songwriter Luke Nagel. Completing the lineup are Richard Pingree on acoustic guitar and vocals, Nick Cassis on bass, and percussionist Nicholas Aspell. With influences ranging from Johnny Cash to Nirvana, you can imagine the unique sound they bring to acoustic story telling.
The debut single “Bedframe” is packed full of emotion and nostalgia of a relationship lost. Nagel’s warm and haunting vocals elude to being stuck in the past. Singing about being stuck in a dream and waking up on the couch again, this song will pull at your heart strings especially since most of us can relate to the lyrics.
The first track on the album quickly became one of my favorites. “Scarlet” is another song about the pain and torment we experience in relationships. Nagel has this inept ability to sonically capture an emotion that not many are able to do. With slow and melodic verses and a more up-tempo chorus, it’s musically very pleasant to the ears, not to mention catchy.
I want to mention the song “Long Road” as well. Another nod at past failed relationships, this one puts out a positive note about taking a chance with someone new after a long, hard road, almost making this song one of encouragement to carry on after failed attempts at love. We each have our own paths in life and sometimes we need to just take a chance to continue our journey.
Collectively, I really enjoyed this album. It’s deep emotion, soft acoustics, and warm vocals made it very pleasing to listen to. It made me want to curl up in a blanket by a fire and reflect on life and love. It’s certainly one I will continue to listen to. Make sure you check out Anatomical Heart, out now!
