Van Halen, the quintessential California party band rolled into Bangor, Maine on a humid July evening with a lot of anticipation. Van Halen’s catalog is full of songs you know and love and can’t help to sing along with. The huge crowd was excited as show time drew near.
The million dollar question nowadays is “how did Diamond Dave’s voice sound tonight? ” Well, David Lee Roth sounded pretty damn good! There were a few mistakes, but isn’t that what rock-n-roll is all about ? What can I say about Eddie Van Halen that hasn’t been written already? Eddie played amazingly, and looked happy and healthy. The guitar legend was spot on during “Little Guitars.” Wolfgang Van Halen provided the low end on such classics as “Running with the Devil” and “Romeo Delight.” From my vantage point, Alex Van Halen was hard to see behind his massive chrome drum kit, but made his presence known on the set’s opening track “Fire in the Sky.” One of my favorite parts of the night was “Hot For Teacher.”
The set list was full of songs that haven’t been played in decades. The crowd seemed to love every minute of the show and didn’t want it to end. I was pleasantly surprised and had a great time.
