Sleaze rock at its best. Vain return with a brand new release titled Rolling With The Punches, their seventh release and first since 2011’s Enough Rope and I must say it is good. Real good. Never heard of Vain? Lead singer and founder Davy Vain started this band back in 1986 and their first record, No Respect, hit the Billboard 200 when released in 1988. He has kept the band alive all these years playing live shows when he can, releasing older albums in the 2000’s, and now lately, releasing new music. The title track starts off this disc with the classic Vain sound with catchy guitar hooks and Vain’s unique voice and singing. He has kept the purity of the sound intact that made him back in the day, which I love as well as others. When you buy a Vain disc, you expect it to sound like this. “Long Gone” is a guitar roller coaster ride courtesy of Jamie Scott and it doesn’t stop there. “Dark City” is a melodic gem with catchy guitar solos and hooks all over the place. “Inside Out” is a slower, darker ballad type with Vain’s vocals soaring over the guitar. This album, produced by Vain himself can be purchased on his webpage and if you are a 80’s glam junkie like me, this is a must get. Like I said, sleaze rock at its best.
