You know those bands you listen to over and over again for years and then finally one day you get to see them perform? Trapt is one of those bands for me. On a super cold night, at the indoor/outdoor facility of the Fish Head Cantina (they make the venue into an indoor only stage for the cold months), Trapt rolled into town on the DNA tour, their sixth and latest release. Yes, you read that right. Six albums. Really? Yes. Playing to a packed club, “Bring It,” off of Reborn, led the evening and quickly riled up the crowd. Lead singer Chris Taylor Brown knew exactly how to do that too. “Who’s Going Home With You Tonight” was next and right then I knew this was going to be a great show. Hit after hit just kept coming after those two songs; “Disconnected,” “Contagious,” “Echo,” “Headstrong,” “Stand Up.” Wow. I had forgotten how many hits this band actually had.
Doing some homework later, their debut album, Trapt, went platinum in 2003. Wait, they have been around since then? More homework later, this band started in 1995. Over 20 years this band has been together and they sound incredible. I was having a great time listening to them. “Human Like the Rest of Us,” from the new album, was evidence enough that this band was showing no signs of slowing down. “Still Frame” was one of the last songs of the evening and it was 2002 all over again for me. Seeing this band live for the first time made my night. I won’t make the same mistake twice by missing them if they tour again, which after seeing this performance, will happen.
