Dear Desolation, Thy Art Is Murder’s fourth, yet despairingly darkest album, is set to be released August 18, 2017. Following the success of their 2015 controversial release Holy War, Dear Desolation is ten tracks of stripped down, raw evolution. Many have misunderstood the messages conveyed in Thy Arts lyrics, and have misinterpreted their meanings as hate. Armed with an extensive knowledge of the world’s religions, politics and cultures, Cj, Sean, Andy, Lee and Kevin lyrically and instrumentally have crushed the competition, making them an undeniable force in the new modern death metal genre. This time, with the help of producer Will Putney (Every Time I Die, For Today, The Amity Affliction,) and the return of vocalist Cj McMahon, they took a year’s worth of collective ideas and collaboratively delivered their most progressive, depressive, ominous album to date. The inscription on the album should read “Abandon All Hope, Ye Who Enter Here” (Dante’s Inferno,) for I felt as though I was crawling on my belly through the gates of Hell. Straight through the gate, “Slaves Beyond Death” attacks with heavy assault, burning your resistance to oppression.
“Slaves, slaves beyond death
Pain, can you feel the pain hiding under your breath
Slaves, slaves beyond death
Pain, can you feel the pain hiding under your breath.”
As each track follows the next, the reign of terror doesn’t let up, beating you down with savage riffs and brutal beats. With the smell of sulfur in the air and the taste of insanity on your tongue “The Son Of Misery” pushes the boundaries and showcases Thy Art’s talent and growth as a band. Moving on to “Fire In The Sky,” which happens to be one of my absolute faves on the album, this song builds and builds until Cj drops those lows on you, chilling you to the bone. Each track on the album leads you right to the next, not wanting to miss a beat. Thy Art Is Murder has been one of my favorite bands for a long time and I have to say that they are on some new shit and I like it. But don’t get it twisted, new doesn’t mean different, for them it means evolved.
Thy Art Is Murder has a fan base of epic proportions that’s loyal to the core. The release of Dear Desolation has been highly anticipated since there was word of new material being made after CJ returned. Fans are really in for a treat when this album drops on August 18, 2017 via Nuclear Blast. They also have a tour coming up with Decapitated, Fallujah and Ghost Bath called The Double Homicide Tour, beginning August 21, 2017 to September 23, 2017.
