The Traditional, a trio from Buffalo, NY quickly jumped on the Emo/Alternative Rock scene after forming in 2012. From playing in garages, to selling out The Waiting Room (Buffalo’s premier rock venue), they were a force to be reckoned with. Their sophomore album The Queen of Heaven, released on March 17, 2017, is a short six song record, but it packs a punch in their genre. After releasing their first record How to Live Without Blood in 2014, The Traditional became very popular and completed a United States Tour shortly after the release. This is the second album with Anchor Eighty Four Records and has had continued success in their short tenure.
“The Queen of Heaven is a record about growing up and trying to move on with a broken heart. It covers anger, longing, self-loathing, and loneliness. It was my therapy in dealing with what was going on in my life and I’m forever grateful to this record for doing that for me.” vocalist Anthony Musior said in the press release.
The album quickly opens with the signature heaviness in the genre with “Parlez-vous Francis” and sets the tone for the album. Setting the table in thought was a terrible relationship and overthinking life, making decisions difficult, has raw emotion and uncertainty in life was at a stalemate. A song that tugs at the heart strings while struggle to stay afloat, “Thirty” is one of those songs that has the killer upbeat tempo with the emotional breakdowns to have you hit the repeat button. Vocalist Anthony Musior has the talent that brings his style and blends it so well with those emotional lyrics. The writing in this record is raw and phenomenal. If you’re a fan of Taking Back Sunday or Relient K, this band deserves a listen. “Enough” is the fifth track on the album, and has deep meaning with its dark lyrics and powerful sad storyline. Give this album a listen, even if not a huge fan of this genre. I think you’ll find a place for this album in your collection.
