Have no fear Zombies, your insatiable appetite for The Nearly Deads is near.
I gave it a listen and can say you need not be afraid, you will not be receiving one of Daryl’s arrows to the head. Indeed, your cravings for more will be put aside as you drown yourselves in the music. Theresa Jeane (vocal, keys), Steven Tobi (lead guitar), Kevin Koelsch (bass), Javier Garza, Jr (rhythm guitar), and Josh Perrone (drums) feed your needs with the release Revenge of The Nearly Deads on May 26.
Early on, “Diamonds in the Rough” sets the tone of the LP with a mix of pop-vocals and grungy instrumentals. TJ has mastered the mixing of her classical training with the band’s instrumentals to produce an LP that demonstrates their unique sound. Her powerful voice is a perfect match for the band that matches her vocal ability without playing above her.
They continue their sound through the LP, feeding your craving with hard-hitting instrumentals that are a perfect match for TJ’s style. What they have done is create music that, while you are bouncing and maybe banging your head slightly, you are able to sing along. The refrains are catchy as hell and you can’t help but sing. You might even find yourself yelling, “You’re not listening to a word I say,” repeatedly while your significant other tries to figure out what they did this time.
TJ’s piano training shines through as the focal point of “As Good as It Gets.” The band is able to not only slow it down, but lessen their sound to allow her talent to take center stage. “As Good as It Gets” is that one song that every talented band has in them. The one that shows they have range. The band becomes a shadow you catch glimpses of out of the corner of your eye while you feast on the piano music. It’s a perfect ending to the zombie banquet. Your cravings are satisfied. You and fellow zombies will lay around satisfied on the feast you have been served.
