The Neal Morse Band will release their new album, The Similitude of a Dream on November 11, 2016. Based on the1678 book by John Bunyan known commonly as Pilgrim’s Progress, this concept album is a journey. Comprised of two CDs, with twenty-three tracks lasting nearly 100 minutes, it is a rather long journey, but man, is it interesting.
Like any long journey, there are periods of smooth travel, remarkable characters, rough roads, homesickness, rest stops, trouble, doubts, and adventure before finally reaching the destination. Playful whimsy weaves in and out of the tale keeping the travelers motivated to continue. The music carries the listener along through the hills, valleys, mud, and conflicts of the wanderer. A symphony of highs and lows, soft harmonies, and jazzy spells, lead into loud and unruly passages of unadulterated rock.
Prog fans will find The Similitude of a Dream holding up easily in the company of Dream Theater, Yes, and Rush. Neal Morse, Mike Portnoy, Randy George, Eric Gillette, and Bill Hubauer make up the band whose musical genius has brought to life the visions of a 17th Century dreamer, but make no mistake, there’s not a single harpsichord to be heard. The band starts its next tour in Nashville on January 15, 2017.
