SUICIDE SQUAD: THE ALBUM DOMINATES THE 2017 GRAMMY AWARD NOMINATIONS
THE RIAA PLATINUM-CERTIFIED SOUNDTRACK IS THE MOST NOMINATED SOUNDTRACK OF THE YEAR EARNING AN ASTOUNDING FIVE NODS
The 2017 Grammy Award nominations are in and it was a great day for “SUICIDE SQUAD: THE ALBUM.” The massive musical companion to the Warner Bros. Pictures blockbuster had an impressive showing boasting five nominations — for Best Compilation Soundtrack, plus three nominations for twenty one pilots’ “Heathens” (Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song, Best Song Written for Visual Media) and one for the Skrillex & Rick Ross collaboration, “Purple Lamborghini” (Best Song Written for Visual Media).

Yesterday’s Grammy nominations further illuminate the immeasurable success the soundtrack has seen since its grand debut. “SUICIDE SQUAD: THE ALBUM” has recently skyrocketed in sales reaching platinum status by the RIAA for sales and streams in excess of 1 million equivalents. The soundtrack made history upon its explosive release this summer as the first soundtrack from a Warner Bros.-distributed film to debut atop the SoundScan/Billboard 200, entering at No. 1 with sales and streams in excess of 182,000 album equivalents – the highest debut for a soundtrack this year and the largest streaming week for a soundtrack ever with over 32 million streams. “SUICIDE SQUAD: THE ALBUM” is the only soundtrack to receive platinum certification in 2016.
“SUICIDE SQUAD: THE ALBUM” has proven itself a true global phenomenon, hitting No. 1 on the iTunes chart in 77 countries around the world, including the United States and reaching streams in excess of 1 billion worldwide. The album boasts 14 tracks, 10 of which are brand new and exclusive to the soundtrack with their companion videos bringing in over 1 billion YouTube views total.
Just last month “SUICIDE SQUAD: THE ALBUM” announced even more great news having 3 of its leading singles receive RIAA certifications. Twenty One Pilots “Heathens” is now 3x RIAA platinum certified; “Sucker For Pain” by Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa & Imagine Dragons with Logic and Ty Dolla $ign (Feat. X Ambassadors) is 1x RIAA platinum certified and “Purple Lamborghini” by Skrillex & Rick Ross is currently RIAA Gold certified, quickly approaching platinum status.
The Harley Quinn theme song “Gangsta,” performed by powerhouse R&B songstress Kehlani has fallen in line with the other leading singles with over 76 million streams worldwide, topping the charts in 10 countries. Both the “Gangsta” track and video – which stars Kehlani decked out in full Harley Quinn regalia – arrived to massive critical acclaim upon their release. The video has drawn more than 103 million views via YouTube thus far.
“SUICIDE SQUAD: THE ALBUM” was produced by Atlantic Records President of Film & TV and GRAMMY® Award-winning soundtrack producer Kevin Weaver (FURIOUS 7, Boardwalk Empire, THE FAULT IN OUR STARS, Girls Volumes 1 & 2, True Blood Volumes 1 & 2); Warner Bros. Pictures Executive Vice President of Music Darren Higman (HAPPY FEET, THE GREAT GATSBY, MAD MAX: FURY ROAD); and Creative Officer of Warner Music Group and CEO of both Artist Publishing and Partner Groups, Mike Caren, who co-A&Red, with Weaver, the massively successful “FURIOUS 7: ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK” and has been responsible for signing more than twenty 20 gold and platinum-selling artists, including Trey Songz, T.I., Flo Rida, and Wiz Khalifa. SUICIDE SQUAD is one of the year’s biggest cinematic successes, scoring the biggest August debut weekend ever with grosses of more than $745 million worldwide, marking the biggest August launch of any film in history.
