If you are a fan of amazing guitar riffs and the metal growl, then Sirens Over Sumeria are your guys. Their EP, Omelas, brings six tracks packed full of energy. The band features Jesse Morin on vocals, Demir Mehovic on guitar, Aaron Stacey on guitar, and Zak Swanson on bass. The Bristol, Connecticut band formed originally in 2012 and released a full length album. Since then they have had lineup changes and geared themselves toward a much heavier sound.
Being a serious metalcore fan myself, I was drawn instantly to the second track called “The Swallow.” Coming in immediately with intensity from the rhythm section leading into wailing guitar riffs, this is certainly going to be a crowd-pleaser. Morin’s growls lead into the rest of a song that is quite melodic for being so heavy.
Another song that became a fast favorite for me is “Solstice.” Nearly a minute long guitar intro leads into some singing with the musical melody. It was refreshing to hear a little singing with the growling. Once again, the guitars play a huge role in this one. It’s quite obvious these musicians pay attention to detail. It comes out well in their delivery on this EP.
Though this EP is rather on the heavy side, I feel the melody from the piercing guitars really makes this something any rock or metal fan can enjoy. Even if you’re not a fan of growling, the music will certainly catch your attention. I’ll admit, it took me a few listens to really get into it. But once I did, I couldn’t turn it off. I like to think my ears can recognize talent, and I hear it with Sirens Over Sumeria.
Omelas was released on November 4th and is available for purchase on all major music outlets.
