If you’re into an old school 80’s gothic sounding band, Them Guns performance on Shiprocked in the Atrium lounge was exactly that. Highly inspired by bands such as The Cure, it was no surprise they covered “Lullaby” off the classic 1989 Disintegration album. Kyle Hamood (keyboardist for Them Guns) is what gave the band the extra punch in the face.
Unfortunately, his keyboard wasn’t facing the crowd, so your average listener was unable to appreciate his shred-tastic skills. Them Guns got off to a slow start since it was early in the day, but it wasn’t long before Chuck Holiday (bass) and frontman Navarone pumped the crowd up and got everyone off their lazy asses. Most bands out of the last 10 years stick to a boring cymbal drum, cymbal drum, pattern, which is what completely takes away from original tasteful music. This was not the case with drummer Bobby Vega, whose double high-hat patterns gave a Joy Division feel, and pushed the limits of his drum fills to give the headliners a run for their money.
Vega forced the crowd to get up and dance whether they were enjoying themselves or not. Them Guns should be hitting the road soon, so be sure to like their Facebook page to find out when and where.
