I love a good guitar only piece. What makes the style more extraordinary is a female guitarist killing it. While female led bands are my top favorite of all time, I give extra props to the ladies ripping it on the guitar. From Lzzy Hale to Lita Ford, these ladies know how to lay it down on the guitar.
The She Rocks Vol. 1 album gives me life. From the different styles of guitar solos to the harmonizing bass line, this album has it going on. Before I get into each individual contribution, I want to note the album as a whole makes love to my ears. There are times where I wonder how music would sound with just rhythm and strings and no vocals. She Rocks Vol.1 gives me everything I am looking for, such as ballads and even some of the heavy stuff.
The album kicks off with Orianthi’s “Transmogrify.” I will admit, while listening to the song, I had to do a bit of research on Orithani because I had never heard of her before. After I completed my research, I was floored at the resume this woman carries. Her past performances with Michael Jackson and Alice Cooper show she is a stellar guitar player. “Transmogrify” is sort of like a smooth ballad. It has soft tones which make it easy on the ears if you were to chill out and read a book. This is easily my favorite song to listen to on my way home from a stressful day at work.
Next up, one of my ultimate favorites, is Yasi Hofer’s “Cosmic Stars.” Again, another one I had to look up because I had never heard of her. Yasi is pretty new on the scene and recently released her self-titled album in 2014. She is from Germany and has been playing for quite some time. She has toured with Neil Young, Hellmut Hattler, and Steve Vai.
Kat Dyson is up next with “U Know What I Like.” This artist I had heard of before because of her soulful playing. She’s almost considered an old-school blues player. Her vocals are phenomenal and her guitar-work is second to none. I can compare her to a female version of BB King. I let my dad listen to this song and he was in awe this type of music still existed in the world today.
I can go on forever about how great this album is, but I would rather have you listen and decide for yourself. If a person is into the different types of guitar styles that exist in the world today, then this will be up to par in the standards department. You have your heavy hitters, smooth ballads, and blues tunes to impress even the pickiest of people.
This album is due to drop January 20th, 2017. Checkout www.favorednations.com/artist/sherocksvol1 for more details and to pick your copy.
