Waves of rock-fanatics poured through the doors of the Complex in downtown Salt Lake City.
Each music seeker flowed through the merch tables, into the upper bar, and spread over the main floor, ready to sate their thirst for live music. They drank down the atmosphere in gulps, swayed to the metal in rhythm, and pounded the barrier in waves.
The lineup inspired it all.
Like Pacific flooded the stage with high-octave passion and pulled the crowd in with a riptide of dance-antics. Lead singer Jordan Black pumped the crowd with his signature jumps. He threw his body into the air, flowed into melodic lyrics, and urged the room to dive into the pop-punk flood.
From there, Movements guided us to float into the cross-stream. Their music offered calm to the pounding bodies below the stage. Movements offered hypnotic contradiction, the vocals and instrumentals spellbound the listeners with intensity, yet maintained an approach controlled calm. The music pummeled beneath each note, but managed to remain serene at the surface.
Then, Counterparts dragged us into the raging rapids. The screaming intensity of Counterparts’ music caused a fever throughout the room. A whirlpool of bodies slammed against each other, fists pounding, sweat dripping, and meaty muscles crashed into swirling legs. The crowd had become intense with Counterparts music urging the frenzy causing the band to pause with for a crowd-injury check. Passion had become physical in the adrenaline tidal wave.
I thought the crowd had given their all, but Senses Fail reinvigorated with color transforming lights and microphone whipping skills. This being their 15th Anniversary Tour, they played Still Searching in its entirety, but the evolution of these artists made the album feel renewed. They owned the stage, re-imagined our memories, and flowed into our cracked hearts. They flushed the wounds on our souls with their passion and cleansed our adaption to overproduction with their vulnerability. Senses Fail gave themselves in the performance, open, raw, and because of that we trickled from the venue renewed, and ready for the next step in our lives.
Senses Fail took us over the waterfall and into live music paradise.
