The side stages are usually for the warm up acts, when the sun is at its hottest and highest point in the sky. Typically, its the most miserable part of the day for a festival goer. The main stage areas were not to open until 3:45pm, so from Noon on, it was time to rage on the hot lawn with two stages chocked full of Metal. It was a serious line to get into the festival grounds, so we ended up ultimately missing the first two bands that started promptly at noon.
Rise Above Festival in Bangor, ME is put on by Shaun Morgan of Seether and is the World’s Largest Suicide Awareness and Prevention Festival.
We made it in with a few minutes to spare, get the cameras ready, grab some waters to hydrate, and rock out with our socks out! DED hit the stage at 1:05pm and absolutely jolted the early rockers. Not a dry body in sight, the sticky and sweaty crowd moved to their 40 minute set as they played almost everything from their new record Mis-An-Thrope.
Next up was Dragonforce, the crazy Brits with their song “Through the Fire and Flames,” made famous from the Guitar Hero video game. These guys killed it. Playing to each other, using up both stages and moving around like cats fighting in a bag, they were a fireball of entertainment before the last band of the side stages hit.
Last but not least, for the side stage was Falling in Reverse. The tattooed rockers from Las Vegas, NV closed up the hot afternoon with some epic riffs and jams while burning it down! Lead Singer, Ronnie Radke moved into the crowd to get a closer feel for how the rest of the day would be, and he wasn’t disappointed. Lots of energy at this festival.
