One of the best bands out there you have never heard of, Orden Ogan return with their fifth album titled Gunmen and this album is a monster. A power metal band hailing from Germany (home of power metal bands) Orden Ogan is a force to be reckon with and this album will prove that to the world. Simply put, this album might be the metal album of the year, it’s that good. The band, lead singer and guitarist Sebastian Levermann, drummer Dirk Meyer-Berhorn, bassist Neils Loffler, and guitarist Tobias Kersting, have been around 1996 and have a very strong following in their native Germany as well as throughout Europe having played many festivals there.
The title track “Gunmen” starts things off, and it is very anthemic. Hard hitting fast drums, along side guitars that will rip your head off, it’s a first song like no other. My mouth was open the entire time I listened to this and that doesn’t happen. The next song, “Fields Of Sorrow,” left me speechless. I kept hitting repeat to listen to it again and again and there were eight more songs to listen to. Also the first single, this song is just melodic power metal at its finest. “Come With Me To The Other Side,” is a song with Liv Kristine (ex-Leaves Eyes) guest appearing and is as close to a ballad as you are going to get with its soft intro turning into a great melodic duet with Levermann. “Ashen Rain” has a symphonic edge to it to coincide with the double guitars and pounding drums and bass. Again, I had my mouth open in awe of this incredible release. Not one soft song on this release, so expect to just be mesmerized when you listen to this album.
The album doesn’t drop until July 7th on AFM Records but I would keep this date in your notepad, or have a reminder set aside to get this album. If I could play this album everyday I would, it’s that great.
