It’s no secret if you read my reviews I am a huge fan of the European rock scene. Sadly, the majority of the melodic rock scene is over there and not in the US. The Open Air Wacken, Sweden, and Download Festivals are proof enough of this. Bands emerge out of the blue here, and instantly become huge.
One Desire is about to take that path. These Finnish rockers have put out one hell of an album. Catchy hooks, super melodic, and the 80’s feel to it make it that way. “Hurt” starts off this album with keyboard and guitar hooks to go along with Andre Linman’s clean harmonic vocals that fit perfectly with this band. The guitar solo by Jimmy Westerlund is fantastic and this is just the first song.
“Apologize” is up next and this roller coaster of rock is on full blast. Talk about a melodic gem. Now, even though this band first started its origins back in 2012, this is their first album and it flat out rocks. Those two songs start off this powerfully AOR sounding album.
You want power ballads, you say? They are here too. “Falling Apart” and “This Is Where the Heartbreak Begins” will satisfy you there. It’s 1989 all over again when you here the latter. “Buried Alive,” my personal favorite on this release, has ripping guitars, and showcases the power of this band. The rhythm section of drummer Ossi Sivula and bassist Jonas Kuhlberg are incredible on this song.
Look for the album out via Frontiers Records on March 24.
