Recently I was sent a disc from Havard Lunde, writer and composer of the band Moonscape from Norway, who has just put out a concept album titled Entity. Performing all the instruments on the entire album, minus some played by some special guests, Entity tells the tale of a man who doesn’t want to face the world around him and escapes reality by shutting his eyes and vowing to never open them again. In his thoughts, where he thought he was safe from the outside world, he now has to face a demon from his past that was hidden in his subconsciousness.
Entity is one forty minute song broke up into nine parts and all nine have melodic parts, progressive death parts, and speed metal parts. Musically, it is very good with different guitarists playing the different melodies like Andreas Jonsson(ex-Spiral Architect) and Leviathan (ex-Unspoken). Diego Palma of LordDivine is on keyboards throughout the album and is very good as well on some select solos. “Abandonment,” part 4 and “Entity,” part 9, stood out musically for me with “The Bargaining” a close third. The demon part, sung by Kent Are Sommerseth, you will love in my opinion, with the guitars in the background and his guttural vocals.
For an independent release from Lunde, this disc is very well done, lyrically and musically, and if you want to hear something different from the great country of Norway besides their famous death metal, this is it. You can purchase this disc from their webpage at moonscape.bandcamp.com.
