APG/Atlantic singer-songwriter Molly Kate Kestner released her debut track today, “Good Die Young.”
A native of Minnesota, Molly wrote “Good Die Young” the day she learned of Prince’s death.
The track premiered yesterday via The Fader, who called it “a soulful anthem.” Upon its release today, Apple Music counted it among their “Best of the Week” and Spotify highlighted it as part of their “New Music Friday.”
“I think one of the most dark and desperate things is when you see a good person die at a young age,” said Kestner about the song. “It doesn’t make sense. So I wanted to write a song about that whole concept, and I came to the conclusion that the only positive thing that comes out of something like this is that it makes you look at your own life and evaluate whether you’re living it to the fullest.”
Kestner caught the attention of the world in 2014, while she was still in high school, when a home video of her original song “His Daughter” went viral on YouTube, reaching over 7 million views in just a few weeks. To date, the song has reached 15 million views on YouTube, 6 million streams and sold more than 120k singles in the USA alone.
Since moving to Los Angeles earlier this year, Kestner has been working on new material for release in 2017. She’s also collaborated with other artists, including Kelly Clarkson.
