Maryland rockers IMPACT return after a five year hiatus and are once again tearing up the local scene playing covers of some heavy hitters they know so well: Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Pantera, just to name a few, but the artist list goes on and on.
Front man Johnny Thompson leads this new incarnation IMPACT, along with bassist Robert Shore, drummer Nick Prysiazny, and guitarists Donald Fowler and Ryan McDavid. After their initial breakup, Thompson fronted other local bands including Lockdown and Penterra, an all cover Pantera band, while McDavid found the right players for IMPACT’s return. After some line up changes, mainstay McDavid has put together a tight knit group, and IMPACT is once again a band. “Once Johnny came back we knew what we were going to do,” said McDavid. “We decided to go back to the IMPACT banner and here we are.”
“I had always told Ryan you get the players and IMPACT is back,” said Thompson. “It took some time, but here we are and we are ready to rock.” I got the chance to see this band play live at Dick’s Halfway House in Rosedale, MD back in June for their return show, and they did exactly what they said they were going to do; not hold back and give 110% to the audience. Playing for a packed crowd and being a five piece for the first time, IMPACT played a lot of metal hits from the 80’s and 90’s which included Megadeth, Anthrax, and crowd favorites Metallica.
IMPACT’s plan right now is to get their following back up since the hiatus and let people know they are back.
“Our plan now is to just keep playing now that we are back,” said McDavid. “It feels real good to play again finally. It almost feels like we never left.”
