Building Castles in Air was produced by the band themselves throughout studios in Southern California and Oregon and mixed in Australia by ARIA award winning engineer Forrester Savell (Karnivool, Dead Letter Circus, Twelve Foot Ninja, etc). The band raised the bar on this new release, challenging themselves more, both musically and emotionally, than they had previously. Singer Nikki Layne and guitarist, Doug Mecca say, “We wanted the music to tell the story, through more than just the words. Sonically, we experimented a lot with guitar and vocal tones, dynamics, and layers to capture some of the contrasting themes throughout the album – introspection, melancholy, longing, daydreaming, transformation, and a sense of hope and optimism.”
Formed in Orlando, FL, Lucid Fly developed a loyal fanbase throughout the Southeastern United States before founders Nikki Layne and Doug Mecca decided to move things west in the early 2000’s, making Los Angeles their new home. Three Ep’s and an invite from Mike Portnoy to join the “Progressive Nation at Sea” cruise in 2014 saw the band proving themselves to be a major contender in the ever-competitive prog rock world.
Lucid Fly’s Building Castles in Air is released 11 November via Hour Eleven Music.
