“What’s crazy about Kyng is that it was my last Hurrah,” states Veliz in an interview with Noisecreep’s Allison B. Crawford on May 18, 2012
It may have seemed like the last hurrah or battle at first. But, eight years later Kyng is still fighting the war to disprove the myth “Rock music is dead.” With tour dates scheduled throughout 2016, including an appearance at Louder Than Life, the three piece Metal Band hailing from Los Angeles is as strong as ever.
“Tony and I always talked about getting a band together and as we started writing songs, it just kept getting better and better. So, we decided to start playing in front of people instead of sitting around,” also stated by Veliz. [continued from same interview]
Originally, Kyng was a side project for both Eddie Veliz (lead vocals and guitar) and Tony Castaneda (bass and backing vocals) aside from their perspective bands and day jobs. Later, finding the final piece of the puzzle, Pepe Clarke (drums) completed the artwork that is Kyng. Kyng officially formed as a band in 2008 and released their debut album, Trampled Sun on September 27, 2011, spawning two singles, “Falling Down” and “I Don’t Believe” which ranked in the top 50 on the Mainstream Rock chart. In 2013, they signed with Razor & Tie Records and in 2014 released a second studio album, Burn the Serum. Their first single and video release “Electric Halo” reached number 25 on the Mainstream Rock Chart.
I have personally seen Kyng live on several occasions. They serve up a heavy dose of strong vocals and mean guitar. Then, they top it with an equally impressive helping of bass and percussion that would have any metal music fan drooling. I have never left a Kyng performance wanting more. From one rock fan to another, I think this band is underrated and believe that they are destined for greatness. Starting Wednesday September 8th through October 30th Kyng will be touring throughout the United States with Clutch and Zakk Wylde’s “Zakk Sabbath.” I will be fortunate to see them on October 2nd at the “Louder than Life” festival (not listed on website) in Louisville, Ky.
They have toured with some of rock’s most elite, such as; Megadeth, Static-X, Saliva, Trivium, Danzig, Clutch, Seether, Papa Roach and Black Label Society. They also performed at Metallica’s Orion Music + More Festival in 2012.
