When you have Ghost, you certainly have an amazing band. Hailing from Linköping Sweden, like a fine wine, the band has only gotten better with time. With their third release “Meliora”, the band has decided to part ways with their singer Papa Emeritus II, and replaced him with Papa Emeritus III, to carry out their message of the dark lord. “Meliora” expands further on the band’s sound starting out strong with the album’s opener ‘Spirit’ we hear an eerie but yet awesome opening followed by haunting yet beautiful vocals of Papa Emeritus III (Replacing Papa Emeritus II, who was fired for apparently not overthrowing the governments and churches). Some of the other note worthy tracks on this album includes “Mummy Dust” which not provides some heavy guitars you can mosh too but also some beautiful organs played that you can sway your hands to. This album also further delves into various genres and becoming less melodic and more progressive hard rock. If you’re not familiar with members of the band, don’t be surprised, no one really is. The band consists of five nameless ghouls who are dressed in all black garbs with identical masks. For the this upcoming album, the nameless ghouls changed their costumes to that consists black robes of grayish masks that resembles statues you would see perched up on high rise buildings; whereas, Papa Emeritus III personifies the Satanic Pope. From just a few short years as being a relatively unknown band at Soundscape, to being respected by many of their musical peers, including Glenn Danzig, Phil Anselmo, and Dave Grohl. Ghost have proven to be a band who will stand the test of time and be remembered not only for their ghoulish imagery, but for their sinister yet catchy hard rock baroques’ sound. The band will be on tour starting September 16th, and will be a featured act at Louder than Life festival on October 2nd in Louisville, KY.
