Jack Russell is back and he’s put out a monster new album. Yes, finally some real rock and roll.
He Saw It Comin’ is the new album out on Frontiers Records. Reunited with longtime bassist Tony Montana, who plays guitar in this band, Russell and company have brought back the sound that made Great White one of the top selling bands of their time. Right out of the gate, the first track “Sign of the Times” sounds like something from Hooked or Once Bitten. Russell’s voice is immediately recognizable, if you know your rock like I do, and for me it was 1989 all over again. He has never sounded better. “She Moves Me,” the next song, reminded me of “Mista Bone.” Russell has always been a bluesy-type of rock writer and this is well represented with the songs “Crazy” and “Don’t Let Me Go.” Montana and Robby Lochner, the other guitarist in the band, shine on these songs. Rounding out the band are Dicki Fliszar on drums and Dan McNay on bass.
Now, the main rocker on this album is “Blame it on the Night.” This song has hit written all over it. Very melodic and very hard are the best descriptions of this song. The final song, “Godspeed,” is sung a cappella. It’s pretty original as I have never heard anything like it.
This album hits the streets on January 27th in North America. Look for Jack and company at rock festivals and venues all year long as he plans to take his version of Great White out on the road.
