Graciously, Fraser Taylor and Simon Mitchell from Young Guns took some time out of their day at Rock Allegiance to chat with Shockwave. The guys have some great things going on and it was a pleasure to meet them. Check out my chat with them!
Shockwave Magazine: Big day for you guys yesterday! Let’s talk about Echoes for a minute.
Fraser: Well, we started writing it pretty much as soon as we put out our last album, Ones and Zeros, and we recorded it in Jersey the beginning of this year, and it came out yesterday. So ya know, we’re feeling a little bit delicate today, but it’s very cool.
You guys had a busy summer. You did the Van’s Warped Tour, how was that?
Frasier: It was great, it was probably the best summer I think I’ve ever had.
Simon: Yeah, it was really good fun. We had never done it before. This was the first time, so yeah, it was long, it was very hot. But it was awesome! We met so many other great bands like every day just hanging out. We got to speak to new people every day so it was a really cool experience.
Great, so you have a couple dates with Of Mice & Men coming up. Are you excited about that?
Frasier: Yeah definitely. The first one was last night in New York. It was great. And then we have New Orleans and one other which escapes me right now. But yeah, they were in the studio at the same time as us in Jersey so, we kind of got to know them then. So it’s nice to hang out with those guys and also kind of see their end result. So it’s a cool thing. We’re kind of in it together.
With the new album coming out, what are the future plans to get it out there?
Fraser: So we have these shows, some festivals like this, then we have the Mice shows. Then we fly home and go out on tour with Billy Talent across the UK and Europe, which is going to be awesome, and then I think we have maybe like a month off or something, and then some things that we haven’t announced yet. But, always busy.
Alright, so who are you guys exited to watch here at Rock Allegiance today?
Fraser: We’re going to go watch LetLive in a minute, it’s going to be awesome. And we only just found out the Taylor Hawkins’ band (Chevy Metal) is here. And the Word Alive, we watched them right before we played, which was cool.
What would you guys rather do? The festival gigs, or would you rather do club shows?
Fraser: I think maybe at this point in time, because we spent the whole summer playing outdoors, I’m kind of enjoying the club shows at the moment, but just because it’s something a little different. There’s different positives to each one.
Speaking of festivals and the like, music cruises seem to be getting more and more popular. Now, you guys have done the Shiprocked Cruise. Is that something you would do again?
Fraser: Absolutely, yeah.
So you had a good time?
Simon: It was wild. I feel like I probably aged about 10 years. There was a lot of drinking and partying.
Fraser: Yeah, I would do it again in a heartbeat!
Ok, well that’s all I’ve got for you. Do you guys have anything else you want to share?
Simon: I guess just look at all our socials, like @younggunsuk on Instagram and Twitter, we’ll be updating our news and anything there. And check out our album!
This band is certainly not one to miss. Check out the brand new album Echoes, out now!
