Local Maryland artists Hysterical Society made their yearly stop at the famous Club 66 in Edgewood, MD last month and what a show it was. Never heard of this band? Born in 2010, Hysterical Society is an all-original progressive rock band which is comprised of guitarist/vocalist Nate Hundley, keyboardist Nick Cornelison, bassist Paul Abbott, and percussionist Todd Davis, and the music they play is pure magic. Even having only ever seen them perform one other time, I knew that the evening was going to consist of some one-of-a-kind original progressive music that they spend countless hours practicing. Hundley, who leads this band, looks to be a very meticulous guitarist by watching him perform. With songs such as “Heavy Head,” “Good Enough For Me,” and “Find Your Water,” the band is a mixture of Genesis, Spock’s Beard, Rush, and Porcupine Tree in my opinion, and those are some pretty good progressive bands to compare Hysterical Society to. The two hour set, along with a visual light show in the background, showcased at least to me, that these guys are some very talented musicians that I do wish played out live a lot more than once or twice a year. So come next year sometime, around October, make yourself available to go and check these guys out as you will surely not be disappointed in hearing some great live music.
