The American Hard Rock band House of Lords was formed in 1987 by keyboardist Gregg Giuffria in Los Angeles, CA with Gene Simmons of Kiss on Simmons Records through BMG. The band name was created by Simmons himself. Since then, there has been a steady climb to the top of the charts, yet lineup changes through the 30 year trek has slowed the process. The only original member is James Christian (vocals). House of Lords gained a ton of credibility while sharing the stage with The Scorpions & Cheap Trick in the early 90’s. Unfortunately, in 1992 HOL disbanded due to creative differences and other opportunities in the industry.
In 2000, House of Lords returned with a production deal on Frontiers Records out of Italy. The highly anticipated comeback album had to wait until 2004 with The Power and the Myth. In July of 2004, Christian decided to go back to the arena-rock style sound with an all new lineup. Joining HOL was none other than Jimi Bell on lead guitar and BJ Zampa on drums. It was exactly what the band needed. After a few short European tours, they released the band’s fifth studio album World Upside Down in May of 2006.
Fast forward ten years, adding bassist Chris Tristram to the mix, fans of the band are in for a treat. 2017 is bringing many new ideas and beginnings to the band. HOL plans on releasing their eleventh studio album in early spring, as well as a Europe & U.S. Spring-Summer tour.
With several members living in Connecticut, it was a treat to find out they’d be playing the small location in Bristol. Bleachers, a small sports bar that can pack in just about 200 people, was shoulder to shoulder on the night the legendary band was to take the stage.
Opening the evening of arena-rock and classic rock and roll was KING KUEL, the four piece band from CT who recently released The King’s Jewels on Awake Records. These guys set up shop like true professionals with amazing classic rock hits, a few covers, and great riffs and solos.
House of Lords took the stage at 11pm and played a solid two hours of nothing but their hits including their new single “Oceans Divide” that was released on Jan 12th. Playing the highly acclaimed songs “Big Money”, “Rock Bottom”, and “I Wanna Be Loved”, House of Lords certainly left nothing on the table. The “Legends of Metal” played their hearts out with their show. They’re hard to find, but with the new tour being set up, be sure to get to a show in the near future.
