I sat down with Marshal Dutton and Cody Hanson before the last stop of their tour in Wilmington, NC. It was a great conversation that covered everything from how the music industry has changed, where you should buy your merchandise, and Tech Guy (aka the hubby, aka him, aka the guy who puts up with me) even got in the mix with his favorite crowdfunding question.
Hinder formed in 2001 when drummer Cody Hanson, guitarist Joe “Blower” Garvey, and vocalist Austin Winkler met. They released their debut album Extreme Behavior in 2005. It’s hard to say which song they became most known for: “Get Stoned,” “Lips of an Angel,” or “Better Than Me.” All three songs are staples on their setlist. Fans expect to hear them when they attend concerts.
Extreme Behavior was followed by Take it to the Limit in 2008 and All American Nightmare in 2010. Marshal Dutton entered the band behind the scenes with All American Nightmare, writing and recording. In 2012, he took became lead vocalist on Welcome to the Freakshow, bringing with him a sound that has definitive country undertones. He has maintained his role as lead vocalist as the band released When the Smoke Clears(2015) and the acoustic LP Stripped(2016). “Remember Me,” their latest single was released.
