Greywind’s Afterthoughts is the type of album that if you’re having a bad day, Steph O’Sullivan’s amazing vocals will bring a smile to your face. I’ve always been a fan of female lyricists; however this band has made a special place in my heart with their stories told in this record.
Founded in 2010, on the shores of Ireland, this brother and sister combo dealt with heartache, rejection, and being told they’d never make it as a band. These are the types of stories that inspire me as an artist to persevere in the doubts and shadows of others. As an artist, if you sit back and see the world going by, it will not wait for you. You need to make a move, and that is exactly what Steph and Paul did. Without skipping a beat, one night they wrote their first song, “Afterthoughts.” The very next day, they hit the studio and recorded the demo. They didn’t even have other band members, only the pair. They didn’t need any, what they have is special.
Immediately following the recording of the demo, radio stations and record labels had interest. Six weeks later, they signed with Raw Power Management. They are now set for their debut album Afterthoughts to be released in the USA on January 27th, 2017 by Spinefarm Records.
The opening track, “Afterthoughts,” is the first song ever written by Greywind, It dominantly sets the tone and depicts what’s in store during the next ten hard hitting songs. The stories told in this album will leave you hungry for more. The current single on the album, “Forest Ablaze,” is a display of powerful vocals complete with amazing lyrics, perfectly executed breakdowns, and a story of their world crashing down, being lost, and setting the forest ablaze to cure the apathy in their lives. Another piece on this album I’m in love with is “Safe Haven,” with sounds like Brand New or Thrice, this single is an anthem to finding your way out of a dark hole. We all can use a little bit of Greywind in our lives; a true inspiration.
When their album drops on January 27th, be sure to look for it on iTunes, in your local record store, or you can pre-order it on their website. If you pre-order you’ll receive some awesome signed merchandise and four songs before the release date!
