I came across a Prog band just playing around on the internet and I am so glad I did. Their name is Greyfeather and they have been around since 2005 believe it or not with collaborations being done via email and in person for years to finally put together a release simply titled Greyfeather. The band is actually five members of other bands that through the years have stuck with this project when time permitted and finally their hard work has come to fruition in the release of this disc. And knowing me, always looking for new music, I got in touch with them to send me a copy to let our readers out in Shockwave-land to get to know them.
The members of the band, Kevin Jarvis of Farpoint, Brian Coralian of Izz, Steve Katsikas of Little Atlas, Wade Summerlin of Cobweb Strange, and Baltimore’s own Dennis Mullin of Iluvatar have joined forces to record this one of a kind release. After listening to it numerous times, I was trying to come up with some band comparisons for them. None came to mind, and that’s what intrigued me the most, the originality of this disc. “Greyfeather Part 2” became my favorite song. It did remind me of early Rush a bit musically, but again, I couldn’t think of another band comparison. Now being from Baltimore, I am familiar with Mullin’s work with Iluvatar and he is fantastic on guitar and not just on this track. Like their website said, when they brought him on board, the true sound of Greyfeather began to emerge. “The Fire” was another track that stood out with Katsikas’ melodic vocals and Mullin’s guitar taking over the extremely meticulous rhythm section being played.
Now you can’t just go and buy this at your local record store, but you can go to Greyfeather’s Facebook page or webpage to order this for your collection. Thank the prog gods for allowing me to discover this band. Now you need too as well.
