The Book is the latest album release from well-known rock artist Graham Bonnet. Most classic rock fans will recognize Bonnet’s voice from his time with bands such as Alcatrazz, MSG, and of course Rainbow.
The Book is a two CD set, with the first one being all new material, and the second being re-recordings of timeless Bonnet songs. Disc one hits the listener with straight forward 80’s style rock with a slight metal edge. The songs are arranged to convey to the listener a lyrical story with different, yet connected, themes. With songs such as “Hiroshima Mon Amour” and “Lost in Hollywood” Bonnet takes the audience on an inspired journey through his melodic narration. While most of the album is full of energetic rock songs, Bonnet also shows off the smoother side of his oh-so recognizable voice with the ballad “Welcome to My Home.”
Disc two gives us updated re-recorded versions of some of Bonnet’s most known songs with a few of the aforementioned bands. These include “Since You’ve Been Gone,” “Desert Song,” and “All Night Long.” It was great for this fan of good ol’ classic rock to be reminded of how I felt the first time I heard these songs. Music has a way of taking a person back and reminds them of times gone, making The Book an always welcome feeling.
The Book by the Graham Bonnet Band was released on November 4, 2016 on Frontiers Music. If you are a classic rock fan like me, do yourself a favor and check it out.
