Living Colour by Karsten Staiger Photography
When it comes to a live performance, the audience always wants more. The show should never end, they say. Well, with the rock legends of Living Colour, what you’re seeing at their live shows is an experience that will leave a lasting impression in your life. I remember growing up and seeing Aerosmith. I was maybe eight years old, watching Steven Tyler on stage rocking away. Then he suddenly leaves the stage and walks through the crowd while still singing into a wireless microphone, shaking hands with his fans as he made his way all the way to the back of the theater. Not skipping a beat, he’s now in the lawn, facing the stage and hanging out amongst the crowd. There was not a dry eye in the place as “Dream On” was performed, and Tyler made his way back to the stage. Those type of moments are the type of moments that last forever. Living Colour does the same for me. These musicians that frankly people thought were cute for wanting to play rock and metal since. In times of serious divide in this world, Living Colour breaks through all of the bullshit and simply plays for the people. People of all ethnicities come out to their shows. It is truly breathtaking the unity that comes from their shows. I was lucky enough to meet them on board ShipRocked 2015.
When I was told I would be able to shoot photos of one of my all time favorite bands, I jumped up and down like a little kid getting the toy they wanted from the store shelf. This is going to be a special show for me. Traveling from my home state of Connecticut to Florida for a kick ass festival is going to start my vacation with some noise. Earth Day Birthday is put on annually by Orlando radio station 101.1 WJRR. Their lineup this year is one of the most solid one day festival lineups I think I’ve ever seen.
On Saturday, April 22, get to the Central Florida Fairgrounds early as there will be three stages of killer performances, heli rides, sideshows, and of course to cap the night off, a fireworks display.
As for the five reasons I want you to check out Living Colour while at EDBD, I’ve included their top five most hit videos of all time. Create yourself a playlist of their music if you haven’t already, buy your ticket, and I’ll see you there.
