After five long years of waiting, fans of the Greek power-metal group Firewind will be rewarded for their patience with a brand new album. The band is releasing Immortals on January 20, 2017 on Century Media Records.
Immortals is the first album for which Firewind, led by guitar master Gus G., has turned to an outside producer. The band brought on Dennis Ward who co-produced, engineered, mixed and mastered, and even co-wrote the album with Gus G. The addition of Ward had some fans slightly apprehensive that the trademark melodic speed-metal sound of the band may be lost. Well my friends, fear not. Firewind is back and in my opinion better than ever.
With Immortals, Firewind’s first concept album, the listeners are treated to the big guitar, fast-paced sound associated with the band. Gus G. proves once again how potently emotional amazing guitar work can be. This album also marks the return of the impressive vocals of Henning Basse, who previously toured with the band in 2007 (although this is the first time he has recorded with them).
Immortals is an in-your-face album filled with commanding guitar and keyboard solos, mighty drums, and resonating vocals. If you are thinking to yourself right now, “That is not my type of music,” I send you this challenge: Give Firewind a listen. I can almost guarantee they will change your mind.
