“If you find yourself drawn to the sounds of Charli XCX, Marina & The Diamonds, and Sky Ferreira, then Fiona Grey might just become your latest obsession.” –Ones To Watch
APRIL 18, 2017 – LOS ANGELES, CA – “Dirty pop” artist, Fiona Grey, is premiering her new single, “Money“, exclusively today with Ones To Watch. Listen HERE. The track, which will be featured on her new EP due out later this year, is a critique of “our culture’s widespread infatuation with pop culture and the ways our obsession with the media can destroy and fulfill us,” according to Grey. Ones To Watch calls it a “raw and open warning of the downfalls associated with current media and pop culture.” “Money” will be available everywhere digitally on Friday, April 21st. Fiona Grey is a twenty-one year old composer and songwriter based in Los Angeles, by way of Chicago. With a background in musical theater performance, and influences including David Bowie, Debbie Harry and Missing Persons, Grey pushes the boundaries of traditional pop music through her edgy songs and energetic live performances. Dubbed a “very worthy young pop talent” by Popmatters, Grey has performed at notable LA venues such as Troubadour and Resident, and shared the bill with popular acts including Charli XCX and Foals.
Grey’s debut EP, Striped Heart, was released in March of 2013, when she was only 18 years old. Just 6 months later, she released her follow-up EP, Belladonna, which included the single “Beauty Queen” — a “heartfelt lowrider that woos its way into your teen dream heart like a rebellious cross between Lorde and Christina Aguilera, with melodic shades of INOJ’s ‘Love You Down'”, according to Neon Gold Records.
Since then, her most recently released single, “What You Want“, was featured on The Wild Honey Pie, who called it “a fierce and fearless track, with an explosive chorus and smooth vocals.” The track was also placed on a promo spot for TV Land’s “Younger“, starring Hillary Duff and Sutton Foster.
Today, Grey is gearing up for the release of her newest EP, due out later this year. The record, according to Grey, will examine our culture’s widespread infatuation with pop culture and obsession with love. With powerful vocals, live string instrumentation and a rock ‘n’ roll heartbeat, the EP invites listeners to tap into their own human emotions, taking them on a journey wrought with tenderness and uncertainty. Grey’s cinematic new EP will provide an anthem for contemporary lives.
