I love being against the rail at a festival, though not just for obvious reasons. Aside from unobstructed proximity, I dig a community coming together to hold back the pit and keep crowd surfers afloat.
As a shortie at 5’1″ my main contribution to the team is lookout. I tap a shoulder to alert an “incoming!” then brace myself for a successful launch or a devastating drop. Sometimes I’m a buffer for those who fall through a gap in hands, or maybe, just maybe exceed the weight of the average surfer. I’m not trying to be cruel here. I’m not only a shortie; I’m a fluffy, which makes me a great ground breaker, but keeps me from partaking in the activity in a way I really want to. So I decided to do something about it.
This year, THIS YEAR, I’m going to be the surfer.
I’m not asking you, my surfing community, to bear the weight of my decision to fly. It’s a few months before festival season, so I’m turning up the heat and getting my run on. This is my first of a series of Festival Ready posts, inspired by the awesome Emilie Rae’s Musical Guide to a Killer Cardio Session.
So my friends and fellow surfers, I bring you my WJRR Earthday Birthday Festival Ready Run List. If you’re looking to crowd surf, or just looking to better your JUMP JUMP endurance, join me in a work out play list inspired by the acts performing on April 22nd in Orlando, Florida. Pick your favorite and maybe when you’re ready, you can surf to the song that got you there.
