Falling In Reverse made a stop at the beautiful new 20 Monroe Live in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Saturday July 15. Coming Home has literally been my favorite album to come out this year, so you can understand my excitement when I saw the announcement for this show, one of just two headline shows this summer. I was also pleasantly surprised with local openers, Of All We Cherish, from Muskegon, Michigan. They were heavy and entertaining!
FIR came out strong, opening with “I’m Not a Vampire” from 2011’s The Drug in Me is You. It was a perfect choice to start the show off with a high energy song to get the crowd moving. Next they slowed things down just a bit with “Superhero” off Coming Home. It’s one of my favorites and it was really special to see the raw emotion of that song come out in a live setting.
The 12 song set list went on with a mix of tracks from the bands four impressive, yet unique, albums. Nine songs in, Ronnie Radke asked fans to sit down, saying he would let us know when we could jump up. So we sat through the intro of “Bad Girls Club” waiting for Radke to tell us when to get up. As he yelled for us to “get the fuck up,” things got pretty wild, as you’d expect. It was all fun and games until a young female crowd surfer got injured. But I can happily say that she was waving from a stretcher on her way out. This unfortunately cut the set short, but the safety of the crowd is number one! Huge props to Ronnie and the rest of the band for ensuring that medical personnel were able to come in and do their jobs.
After the young fan was safely in an ambulance, we were graced with three more songs. They closed with the title track from 2015’s Just Like You. It was a highlight of the show for me because along with my four friends who joined me at the show, we sang every word together. It was a perfect choice to close out the show. There was no encore due to the medical emergency, but that was ok. Sometimes that’s just the way things go.
Overall it was a fantastic show and Ronnie has never sounded so good. The rest of the band was also great. I truly have not had that much fun at a show for a really long time. Though everything didn’t go according to plan, it was still a lovely time. Thanks FIR for slaying your Grand Rapids show!
