I just finished watching Extreme’s performance of Pornograffitti Live 25 / Metal Meltdown at the Hard Rock in Las Vegas, NV. In a nutshell, WOW. Pornograffitti was a core part of my teenage years, so seeing this was an absolute treat to my ears and soul.
The show started off with a bang, and the band got right into “Decadence Dance.” I wish I had half of the energy that these guys pour into their shows! From Nuno Bettencourt’s ripping guitar solos during “When I’m President,” “Get the Funk Out,” and “Flight of the Wounded Bumble Bee”(among other fantastic songs), to Gary’s spot on vocals, this is a show I would watch over and over. They performed the album in its entirety, and nailed each and every track. I don’t know many guitarists who pour their heart into playing like Nuno at this stage in their career.
The entire crowd helped sing “More Than Words,” or at least, it sounded like the entire crowd. It’s always a crap shoot when a vocalist asks the audience to sing. But Gary Cherone didn’t have to ask. They just sang, and sang it well. When the band slowed things down for “When I First Kissed You,” I hate to admit it, but I got a bad case of the warm and fuzzies from that.
I don’t want to give the whole show away, that wouldn’t be fair. What I can tell you is this; you absolutely SHOULD be jealous of me right now!
