I had a chance last weekend to do a super fun interview with Wilson at Dirt Fest. The hard partying Detroit rockers were nothing short on the entertainment for this one. We briefly chatted about future plans, upcoming tours, and what’s going on with Wilson right now.
Shockwave Magazine: You guys, introduce yourselves.
Wilson: I am Jason (Boris), James, I’m Chad, Puhy.
So do you guys have any new music coming out? If so, tell me about it.
Chad: We do not have new music coming out, we are writing new music, so it will be coming out, but currently, no new music.
James (Igor): We are dreaming of ways to titalize our fans and all of the people we love very much.
So you guys went to Europe earlier this year, how awesome was that?
James (Igor): It was great, they brought me back with them. I live here now! I have real American girl as girlfriend!
What was your favorite show in Europe?
All: Paris, France
James (Igor): Usually I stay at entrance of venue and spit on peoples shoes, which is why they say, “Fuck Igor, fuck Igor.” I am so socially awkward, that’s my way of saying “Hey, I just want to be friends.”
Ok, along this line, you guys have some alter egos. We have Igor and Boris, and we have Larry and Walt. How did that come about?
Jason: Being drunk.
Puhy: They’re just kind of voices that came out when we were drunk and driving, well you know.
James (Igor): It’s how we compartmentalize our homosexuality.
Puhy: But really, it’s how we deal with being in a van for 12 hours.
Right on, right on. So you guys took a year off from the Shiprocked Cruise. How excited are you to come back?
Chad: We’re pumped man.
James (Igor): This will be my first Shiprocked, I am very excited!
Chad: He has his passport, he’s good to go.
Puhy: Super excited
Are you guys doing anything fun to surprise the Shiprockers this year?
James (Igor): Why would we say that, why would we say that?
Puhy: It’s none of your business!
So coming back to new music, you guys did play a new song today, tell me about it?
Chad: We did, we’re writing new music so we thought we would try out something new on this Dirt Fest crowd.
Speaking of Dirt fest, why is it so awesome for you guys?
Puhy: I think most of us have played it in past bands and then together so it’s just kind of a staple. Matt Dalton is a friend of all of ours. It’s a very unique festival.
Chad: Yeah as far as things in Detroit go, this is the only straight up rock festival that exists, so it’s really special to have something like that in your back yard.
Anything else you guys would love to share?
Chad: We’re gonna be on the road with Sevendust this fall and Steel Panther in December and January, and we’re gonna keep on writing new music!
These guys put on a great set on the main stage at Dirt Fest complete with beach balls with bloody hand prints and confetti cannons. Wilson always brings a high energy set, and their slot at Dirt Fest was nothing short of that. Catch them this fall and winter on the road with heavy hitters Sevendust and Steel Panther!
