Udo Dirkschneider is a name you should already know if you are a metal fan and if you are not, just stop reading this now and go back downstairs to your mom’s basement and listen to your Wham! records.
This man is an icon, a legend, and a true metal front-man in the likes of Bruce Dickinson, Rob Halford, and Ozzy. He has a new live album out now on AFM Records called Live-Back to the Roots, which just showcases his songs in Accept. Why you ask? Because he is calling it quits with these musical anthems and ending a chapter in his life. He will only focus on songs from his U.D.O. band from here on out. Accept is still alive and playing without their ex-lead singer, but you all know this man is THE voice for these songs: “Metal Heart,” “Breaker,” “Princess of the Dawn,” “Living for Tonite.”
The classics are endless: “Fast as a Shark,” “Restless and Wild,” “Midnight Mover,” “Screaming for a Love-Bite.” We will never hear these songs performed again from him. “Neon Nights,” “Flash Rockin’ Man,” “Wrong is Right,” and “Up to the Limit.” Then, there is the one song from him that is pretty much like no other for metal lovers worldwide, “Balls to the Wall.” This is the last time we will get to listen to this song from him, album, live, whatever.
Now I’ve depressed myself a little. Don’t get me wrong, this album kicks serious butt. Hearing these songs live and in the year 2016 is truly great, but alas all great things come to an end and this is one of them. Go and get this album and experience a true legend singing these classics. Kids, this makes a great Christmas gift for your dad’s too. He will explain Udo and Accept to you and then you will become a fan, just like him.
Dirkschneider will be touring the US early next year also on his extended Farewell to Accept Tour so here is your last chance to see him perform these songs in person.
