Dayseeker is releasing third full-length album, Dreaming Is Sinking /// Waking Is Rising, on July fourteenth. After baring the contents of their lives into two previous albums, these five Orange County natives, felt it was time to shake things up a bit. Vocalist Rory Rodriguez, Shawn Yates & Gino Sgambelluri on guitar, Ramone Valerio on bass and Mike Karle on drums, birthed a gripping tale of 12 tracks of movie-esque plot thickening lyrics, brilliantly fleshed into a story of revenge, chaos and abandonment. Each song teeters on the edge of reality and disillusion as the main character, avenges his wife who was attacked, and loses his estranged mother while his mind is locked in a coma. As I closed my eyes and immersed myself into each song, my hair stood on end as Rory’s raw emotion in “Abandon,” reveals every hurtful feeling at the hands of others. My favorite track, “Sleep in the Sea pt. II” (feat. Garrett Russell of Silent Planet,) seeks to find you in every dark corner of yourself, powerful and compelling to the very last note. Then there’s “Desolate,” this song has everything, penetrating screams, a haunting melody, and a build that shakes you to the core.
Like a good page turner, thrilling and complex, Dreaming Is Sinking /// Waking Is Rising is more than just 12 songs on an album. It is a soundtrack of life/death and joy and pain. Dayseeker has taken the reigns and drove this one all the way home. Be prepared when you pop this baby in, or download the digital, because you won’t be leaving until the whole album has played at least once, or twice.
