Let me take you back to 2007 where a younger me was just finding out about the things she liked. There was this club in Philadelphia called Shampoo and on Wednesday nights was considered Industrial Night. I walked in not knowing what I am getting myself into, but as the night went on I realized this was the place to be as I felt comfortable there. The DJ was bumping the tunes all night, but there was one band that stood out to me.
Combichrist has always been my favorite Industrial Metal band. There was something about their music that always had me dancing, especially while cleaning. Their newer release This Is Where Death Begins is different, but still amazing. They still have the melt your face off tribal drums and heavy hitting synth-beats. Andy LaPlegua’s vocals are amazingly gritty, but a lot harder, and I love it.
“Skullcrusher” has me wanting to run a marathon. The speed of the song is a great pacer. It’s fast, but steady, and the guitar riffs are to die for. Another song I like on this album is “My Life My Rules,” which is an everyday motto I live by. A lyric that stood out to me was “I’m so sick and tired of waiting for you/There is nothing left to do/You’ve been too proud, you’ve been a fool/God damn, you’re so overrated.” To me that means people are so use to trying to fit in with the norm and won’t even try to be unique in any fashion.
What is also interesting is this album also contains a few songs from their live show in Los Angeles, and some songs that appear on the album come from their older albums; which will make their fans extremely happy. I know this album has taken me back to my Nocturne Wednesdays at Shampoo Night Club.
Here is their video for “My Life, My Rules.”
