In the beginning, Satan kicked Aversions Crown right out of hell and into Brisbane, Australia. Three albums, and two albums later, AC has brought back the sounds of hell and beyond with their latest album: Xenocide. These guys may not have been around for a long time, but they have screamed their way onto stages supporting dark metal’s favorite bands and growled their way onto genre specific playlists. When I think of AC, I imagine beasts with glowing red eyes surrounded by billowing black smoke rising from the abyss. A place once beautiful, now lays in ruins with foul disfigured creatures roaming the earth. Xenocide creates a world outside of reality, where “Void” begins and end of the world’s sirens fill the air. Are we being invaded? Is the end of days upon us? The deep beats of the bass drum, like a death march is approaching.“Misery” pours out each debaucherous lyric, for what lies in the shadows can only be suffering and pain. Track by track, horror spits in the form of flawless, acid-dripping gutturals, summoning breakdowns, and talon ripping speed screaming. This is the stuff nightmares are made of kids. I’m in love with this band. They have everything I love in a death metal/dark metal band. Anyone can scream if trained, but it takes a special kind of talent to do what Aversions Crown can do. Xenocide is their greatest yet. My favorite song of all is “Stillborn Existence.” There is this piece of music at the end of the song that sounds like someone is playing a record backwards. To my knowledge, no band has attempted to do that since the Beatles. Aversions Crown isn’t afraid to push the limits.
Go buy Xenocide now and see what I mean.
