Album Art by Tyler Reitan
Freakshow is exactly what The United States America is in for 2017: a wild ride, split in two, multiple personalities, and making your head spin right up until the end. This band has proved they don’t need to be a cookie cutter type of act. With the styles of Anti-Flag mixed with Orgy, the sound is intriguing, and it doesn’t stop there. It’s a never ending genre battle of how messed up this country is and what we can all do to fix the problems, packed into a 12-track record.
“I can’t begin to express how excited we are to debut this project at eOne. We’ve worked relentlessly among ourselves, as well as with our producer Zardonic, to build an album we’re confident has a great shot at striking a nerve in rock,” says American Grim vocalist Ryan Healy.
From the top of the album, “Concrete Jungle,” starts off with a distinct metal style, mixing punk-rock vocals and against the grain lyrics. This band is “doing what they want, all night long!” Proving they aren’t just another run of the mill metal band, the title track “Freakshow” contains some serious high octane. Another track to look out for is “Only On.” I seriously thought I had gone back to the late 90’s with Orgy and Powerman 5000 with this one. Some electronics, synthesizing vocals, and amazing guitar work, it all just blends so well that you forget what year you’re in. Turn the page to the next track,.“I Want Out,” brings a Linkin Park style, including hip hop beats, with a backdrop of metal, and cunning lyrics of how “I want out, and want to runaway” from this place. One of my favorites on Freakshow is “Get Loud,” an anthem telling you to “drown out all your problems” right now in this moment.
