Vicious Cycle is the revolution of existence.
Afterlife has given us a rap-rock carousel of aggression. However, this scream-heavy album is not an all-ages mechanical pony ride.
Step onto the platform with their opening track, “Anthem,” and attempt to keep your balance. Head-banging vertigo will induce, but hip moving beats will keep your moshing feet underneath you.
Slam into a spin with “Pain and Pleasure,” and get to the know the delicious contradiction. Welcome to Afterlife’s roller coaster, meet adrenaline, and say hello to the edge, you daredevil. Don’t bother with the escape hatch, you’re in the “Vicious Cycle,” and there is no safe word.
Vicious Cycle is heart pounding exhilaration with instrumental chaos. Yet, this pandemonium is planned and proven with instrumental skill and the chronological track names:
“Anthem” (the beginning), to “Pain and Pleasure” (the turmoil), to the center with “Vicious Cycle,” and “Fading Away” that signals the oncoming end, “Catalyst.”
Vicious Cycle is the soundtrack to the now, the future, and the past. Rock to the music, spin life’s wheel, now live in the reincarnation of sound.
Speaking of the future, here’s my prediction: Afterlife has produced the best EP of 2017 with Vicious Cycle.
