Former Mushroomhead vocalist, Waylon Reavis has done it again. When he was with MRH from 2004-2015, his incredible style showed that he was a very gifted front man. With his new band, A Killer’s Confession, he’s showing it once again, and he’s got a great band backing him up.
The vocal range of Reavis is amazing on “Rebirth”, the third track on Unbroken. The stealthy growls and gripping high pitched melodic séances had me floored at his skill. It never was clearer than now, the visions he had for this new band and new music. The title track “A Killer’s Confession” features Brian “Head” Welch of Korn, and consists of the signature moves that “Head” brings to the table in every single song, including the eire and dark riffs that make Korn sound so unique. Welch brings his vocals to the song as well, and its chilling. This album embraces everything that the metal genre once was and needs to become again, with songs like “Final Breath” and “L.O.L.,” everything screams that you’re on a high voltage thrill ride and there is no chance of escaping. You’re at the mercy of the metal gods with this record. Lemmy and Dime would be proud. There are a few songs that are current that give me goosebumps, not many have that emotional attachment, but when one comes along, you need to set that b***h on repeat and forget about the shitstorm we call life, “Sympathy” just does that. Featuring Kimberly Freeman of One Eyed Doll, it’s soothing, it’s metal, it’s beautiful. The song obliterates your senses and simply fades to black and crashes hard.
When I first heard that Reavis was taking on this new project, I was excited, and as a fan of Mushroomhead, I knew I had to hear the new work.
“I am so proud of this project, and being able to come back with an absolutely KILLER record, with KILLER musicians “states Reavis in the press release for the album. “Anyone who has been a fan of anything I have done previously, is absolutely going to be floored by AKC.”
Unbroken is being released on May 12, 2017 via EMP Label Group, the label founded by Megadeth bassist David Ellefson. Reavis said, via the press release, that when AKC signed with EMP: “I am so thankful to Thom and David for believing in me and getting behind this project the way they have. I have been watching everything they’ve done the last year, and I am so proud and excited to be part of the EMP family.”
